70 Days of Summer ... Day 1

I’m blogging the 70 days of summer.  We’ll see how it goes.  My goal is to record the events in the life of teacher in the summer as well as capture some reflective thinking.

June 5, Day 1 of Summer Vacation!

Devotional phrase … the glory of God ... Inspired to think about this because our pastor has been preaching from Psalms (1, 8, 15, 16, 19)! Psalm 8 and 19 talk about God setting his glory in the heavens and the heavens declaring that glory.  More amazing, He crowned us with His glory.  What does that mean?  Glory implies royalty.  I’m reminded of 1 Peter 2:9, "But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light." Pondering today being crowned with glory to declare His praises!

The “big” task today … cupcakes.  I love to bake; can’t do it too often because my short, round frame doesn’t need flour and sugar.  And I don’t usually bake cupcakes because dipping out individual portions of batter is not my thing - I tend to put too much batter in the cups.  But tomorrow there is a party with lots of adults and kids.  Cupcakes are much easier to serve.  So today, I measured the batter, and I’m testing one small pan to see if the cake overflows.  You would think the math teacher could figure out how to fill each cupcake liner ⅔ full!
I started 4 books just before summer vacation began.  I know - it’s crazy to have four books going but each one has a different purpose.  I downloaded The Widow of Larkspur Inn by Lawana Blackwell for free on my Kindle by using BookBub.  It is a simple, heartwarming story … it’s my book to relax by.  I have Eugene Peterson’s book, Practice Resurrection, as my inspirational reading to accompany Bible reading.  And then I’m reading Beyond Infinity: A Mathemattical Adventure by Charles Fischer because I might like to use it in my classroom next year.  Last, I’m reading Building Powerful Numeracy for Middle and High School Students by Pamela Weber Harris for professional reading.

On this first day of vacation I find myself bouncing from one book to the other … and getting sleepy!
Naps in the summertime … hmmm, what a thought!

How many days in your summer vacation? Join me in blogging about a teacher's summer!
