A couple of weeks ago I wrote about asking students to complete a mid-year reflection. I was not happy with the form I first created. This week I revised and simplified the form. I plan to distribute the reflection form next week during our exams. I plan to explain to students how I value their feedback. I want to know how I can help them be more successful. Many of my students seem satisfied and growing. A few seem to dislike the class. Is that the content? My teaching? Or a combination of both? And are there viable changes I can make to increase their satisfaction? Hopefully my young teens can give me some insight!MidYear Reflection
Nice reflection form. There are a lot of questions that are what I consider heavy hitters for the middle of the year, but those are also the same questions that can provide the best insight and the best reasons for growth (depending on student answers). It is hard for teachers to "hear" the honesty from students (good or bad), so I applaud you for being open for your students! I look forward to hearing the results!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your encouragement. Just like most classes I guess - I have many students doing well ... I am interested in knowing how to continue to help them ... what's working for them. But then I also have that handful in every class who are not successful ... some of them won't take this seriously ... but possibly some will give me some ideas that they think might work for them. I am doing this on our exam days next week ... so we'll see!
